Questionable art skills!

While our time in the shared house we made good friends with the 4 volunteers living there – all women (which says something, that most volunteers we have met have been women.. c’mon guys!).

From left to right; Emma, Alice and Charlotte

Charlotte from Surrey – really great girl, got on well with her.
Emma from Scotland – a bit of a drama queen and sadly got the brunt of being a foreigner out here, (we were walking along the road one day, when a young person walked up to her and slapped her arm, hard, just because she was a ‘muzungo’ European traveller!!)
Alice from Luton – proper dipsy, loved baked beans and loved to scream to every song on the dance floor (sound familiar girls..) but a lovely girl.
And Anna from Germany – seriously, the BEST GERMAN we have ever met, totally embraced Africa and was full of life and energy.

Another Anna, in pink, was the cook from the house, she came out with us one night for partying at the Massai Camp. Africans can dance, trust!

All of us spent the weekend painting a primary school, Ebenezer Day Care, which was a school that a couple of them had worked in that has an orphanage attached.
This was the school before

This was a real labour of love as we only had basic equipment to do this – I tell you, health and safety went out of the window when we were standing on buckets, wonky pieces of wood and children’s desks to reach the high parts, we even used a tree branch to attach the roller brush to!!

The kids wanted to get involved!

Not to mention we had the children that lived at the orphanage running around us.

Although they were a laugh and adorable, that is when they were not trying to mess up what we’d done, little rugrats!!

J with his tree branch roller brush!
Everyone getting on with the job

Chartlotte and me getting our painting on in the African heat!

And as with painting, it got messy and we never even had any white spirits to clean ourselves, so enter the cleaners….the children began washing our hands, for us with a natural ex-foliant…mud and earth! LOL, jokes aside it kinda worked a little…at least my hands were “soft, soft, soft..!” (like the TV advert for loo roll) Oh and the best part is that we didn’t even have water when we got home…love it!

The children began 'cleaning' my hands!

Anna and me getting an alternative manicure of sorts!!

My wonky alphabet on the wall..!

This was Anna's beautiful savannah scenery on one side of the wall

Charlotte and Alice painting shapes

It was almost complete by the time we left. Days later I still had paint in my nails!
When Jay and I left there was only a few last min bits to do..so we were happy.
