We travelled for two and ‘a bit’ days to get to Asia after our plane (the new A380 ‘double decker’ plane) suffered a technical failure forcing us to decamp and change to a new one, meant we were up for a full 32 hours straight, so upon reaching Bangkok Thailand we were shattered!
We have been to Bangkok before and were happy to arrive however was not in any sort of mood to sight see. So instead we decided to take a break for a few days to dust Africa off us and start anew and refreshed.
So we slept one night in Bangkok in the Washington suite before jumping onboard the sky train at Saphan Kwai and headed down to the Eastern bus terminal called Ekkamai to catch a bus heading south to Ban Phie, to then catch a ferry to island hop to a ‘beachy’ place…(still with me?!) I mean we had done so much travelling already, what’s a few more hours to relaxation!

The bus ride was three and a half hours and ordinarily I would have wanted to kill myself if this was a bus ride in TZ however this is Asia…and thankfully the bus was spacious, clean, air conditioned, (oh yes) and the driver actually drove sensibly!!!

The buses were luxury! |

The boats at Ban Phie Pier |
Next we were at Ban Phie pier and had to walk a plank with a suit case in our hand to make it onboard the boat..scary stuff but just thinking about the sandy beach and the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand waiting for us on the island of Ko Samet, we made it somehow..! ;P

The beach at Ko Samet |
The resort has its own part of the Ao Wong Duean beach, which is regarded as one of the two best beaches on the island for having fine sand and is within a national park as it sits on the edge of a tropical forest.
Along the boat journey, we made friends with two couples that are shall we say are worldly wise (they are both in their 60’s) but are amazingly young at heart and we are having such a laugh! Tom and Francis and Dave and Jen.

In fact just today Jason bet Tom that he couldn’t long jump further than 6 foot to which Tom gladly proved him wrong and topped it off with kart wheel and handstand!! LOL

Gwan fella's, LOL!! |
And as part of our relaxation, we have treated ourselves to a nice room in the Silver Sands Resort on the Eastern side of Ko Samet, and for 2000 baht (roughly £40) a night, is the best room we have stayed in since Zanzibar, complete with its own ‘bathroom of bliss!’ LOL, ah, good times!
