This really is the bus ride from hell!!!

Our next step was to head towards Rwanda. Travelling to other African countries is so hard due to the price of flights being ridiculously expensive, (something that was not expected at all). Leaving you with the alternative of riding the bus/coach, which is sooo very long. There is also the train in some cases but they are even less reliable and take longer then the buses to reach their destination.

But hey ho’ Jay and I syked ourselves up to do it and on board a bus we went. Our route would take us to a place called Kahama, TZ, where we would have to overnight and then catch another bus to the border, then perhaps catch another across.
The bus left at 06:00am which is a mission for me let alone Jay..we all know he’s not an early bird..!

Although we were told it was a good road, that person must have been on the local drink - konyagi because for approx 8 hours we travelled a bumpy, dirty, dusty track (you can’t call it a road) we even went through sand quarries!! It was like we were back on safari but instead of a 4x4 it was a massive huge bus with a crazy man behind the wheel….To add insult we were driving alongside the road they are constructing (with the help of a Chinese man at every site) but isn’t finished as yet.

The windows wouldn’t open properly, there was no leg room, the driver thought it was amusing to speed over bumps, physically making the passengers jump out of their seats, which must have been funny to some people because they were giggling and even when our tyre got a puncture instead of informing the driver they just laughed among themselves….wierdos! We even picked up passengers along the way, ramming them in the walkways, so that they have to lean on those in the seats and they brought their luggage with them including chickens – I kid you not!!

By the time we reached our destination of Kahama we had travelled for 11 hours and were covered in dust, Jay’s beard actually turned golden due to the sand/dust collected on him!!

It was a God’s send when we discovered (though last min info by Rochelle),  that Rwanda had experienced some civil unrest in the way of grenade attacks in the city (which is where we were heading for) in the past weeks and the Embassy was advising for foreigners not to enter…

So we abandoned Rwanda and instead took a much shorter journey of 5 hours on the bus to head to Mwanza where Lake Victoria is situated.

It really is amazing what a difference a tarmac’d road makes!! Lol, listen to myself declaring my love for tarmac!!
